In June 2011 ARRIS announced the general availability of its 32D Cable Access Module (CAM), a line card in the C4® CMTS chassis. With 32 DOCSIS® 3.0 channels per card, it is double the capacity of the prior generation (16D CAM), which has the ability to double the total downstream capacity of the C4 chassis to a maximum of 512 channels. The 32D CAM is notable in that it is a software upgrade to the 16D CAM hardware. Additionally, the company demonstrated bonding four cards (128 DOCSIS channels) to deliver 4.5 Gbps downstream to a single fiber node.

At the same time, ARRIS showcased 24U CAM card, which is also twice the density of the prior generation 12U. Like the 32D, it will be available as a software upgrade to existing customers. The company also demonstrated (as a proof of concept) 575 Mbps upstream bandwidth over 24 DOCSIS channels on a single 24U card. The 24U product is slated to ship in Q4/2011.
