FierceTelecom Webinar Series: Packet Optical Network Platforms
As service providers try to maintain a balance of fulfilling the demand for new services while maintaining profitability, they are adopting platforms that can support the roles of optical transport, TDM and packet services. Enter the Packet Optical Network Platform (PONP). Join FierceTelecom for this three-part webinar series examining the various Packet Optical Network Platforms approaches and how they fit in with service provider's needs.
As the packet optical networking platform concept has emerged, two dominant camps have advocated specific ways they think these devices should be built.
Session 2 - July 21st, 2pm Et / 11 am PT
Carrier Roundtable: Packet optical networking platforms
Featured Speakers:
Joe Calzone, Vice President of Operations, ION
Grant Kirkwood, Chief Technology Officer, PacketExchange
With vendors offering a diversity approaches for Packet Optical Network Platforms (PONPs), this carrier-only roundtable discussion will focus on how three service providers are applying these devices to fit their next-gen networking needs.
To set the stage, these service providers will provide a short case study on how they are applying PONPs into their networks. These case studies will then be followed by an open roundtable discussion hosted by Sean Buckley, Senior Editor of FierceTelecom.
Session 3 - July 28th, 2pm ET / 11am PT
Making the 100 Gbps Connection
Featured Speakers:
Eve Griliches, ACG Research
Dan Moffat, Chief Tecchnology Officer, GTA TeleGuam
Matt Rossi, Zayo Enterprise Networks
While many service providers are clearly upgrading their core and edge networks with 40 Gbps capabilities, it's clear they are already making the move to 100 Gbps.
In this interactive webinar, you'll get to hear how not only the approaches, but how some of the major service providers are either conducting trials or actual deployments of 100 Gbps technology.

Carrier Ethernet Backhaul Summit
Enabling wholesale, exchange, low latency and mobile broadband services
London, England
October 11-13, 2010
Carrier Ethernet Backhaul Summit is about Ethernet services and the service providers that offer them and use them – fixed, mobile, wholesale, ISP and business ICTs. The agenda will focus on service and business visions for Ethernet backhaul, including service specifications and customer requirements, SLA definitions and management considerations as well as value chain and even potential charging models in the case of Ethernet Exchange.
If you want to find out how service providers are using Carrier Ethernet services to support mobile broadband, wholesale backhaul and low latency services, or how service providers are planning to leverage Ethernet Exchange to extend the reach of their service portfolios internationally, then you’ll find the right contacts and information here.
Lead operator for this event is Colt.
Packet-Optical Transport Networking
Converging OTN-MPLS in the NGN Infrastructure
Berlin, Germany
November 15-17, 2010
Eve Griliches of ACG Research will be presenting at this conference.
In parallel, existing OTN standards have been extended with ODU0 and ODUflex, providing more flexibility, granularity and dynamism in order tostrengthen its packet-handling capability. Wide industry support means that OTN is now the multiplexing and management structure for high-capacity networks, as SDH continues its journey into retirement.
The stage is set for new evolution, new strategies, new optimization potential and new convergence options. Attendees will discover how service providers are leveraging P-OTN systems and architectures to grow new business and cut packet transport costs.
With the ITU-T and IETF working in concert to complete new MPLS-TP standards, MPLS has taken on board transport network attributes to strengthen its carrier-class credentials. Wide industry assent means that MPLS-TP is now the target packet aggregation and management protocol for NGN, while Ethernet alternatives have faded away through lack of support.
Lead operator for this event is Deutsche Telekom.

What's Next? Analyst perspectives on Long Term Broadband Opportunities
The Broadband Forum has invited leading analysts in the areas of end-to-end network architecture and the connected home to discuss their perspectives on emerging trends and market requirements, highlighting areas of corresponding opportunities for new work by the Broadband Forum. Distinguished analysts from ACG Research and Yankee Group will share their views on a moderated panel with ample time for Q&A with Broadband Forum members.
LTE, Converged Mobile Networks Summit
Building the Evolved Pacet Core
London, England
December 6-8, 2010
Bill Rubino of ACG Research will be participating on panels at this event.
LTE & Converged Mobile Networks is the first event to focus exclusively on the engineering challenges of deploying LTE in today's mobile networks. The Evolved Packet Core offers tangible benefits in bringing down transport costs for today's mobile broadband services, making it the natural first step towards an LTE-centric infrastructure.
Deploying the Evolved Packet Core (EPC) will drive a convergence between mobile and fixed networks. In particular, what we currently call mobile backhaul will increasingly integrate with the fixed metro network. As a result, service providers are looking for a convergence in NGN and NGMN standards and architectures. Attendees at this unique event will find out how senior network strategy professionals are planning EPC deployment and network evolution paths within major EMEA based service providers.
